In every season under Bob Stoops, but one, the Oklahoma Sooners have been one of the top 20 programs in special teams play.

In 2008 however, the special teams weren't so “special.”

What went wrong? How can one team go from being fearless at special teams play, to being the laughing stock of FBS programs?

In 2008, Oklahoma's defense was the poorest it has been in the Stoops era, finishing 68th overall.

When people think about the Oklahoma Sooner athletic department, the first thought they come to is football. And rightfully so.

The football program from Norman, OK is matched by very few in this great country of ours. Seven National titles, 41 conference championships, and countless individual awards.

 

But outside of the successes the football program has had, what other successes can fans and knowledgeable folks think of?

 

Not only does Oklahoma have those seven national championships in football, they also have seven in wrestling, third in the nation behind Oklahoma State and Iowa, respectively. They also have seven in men's gymnastics, the most of any major university in the nation.

2009 could be a very magical season for Oklahoma. They will be vying for yet another Big 12 and National Championship.

After 2008 was complete there were questions on which underclassmen was going to leave early and which would stay.

In a rare before scene, all of Oklahoma's NFL eligible underclassmen decided to stay and try for that elusive eighth national championship.

However, in 2009, there are still some questions that need to be answered before they can make that run. Following the 2009 annual Spring Crimson/Cream game, Oklahoma still has a few questions, but has a better gauge of their future team. And it is very promising to say the least.
